The Very Reverend Nicki McNelly, Provost of the Cathedral since 2012, is to be the new Rector of St Cuthbert’s, Colinton, in Edinburgh Diocese. Her last Sunday in post as Provost of the Cathedral, and as the Rector of St James’ Ardbrecknish, will be June the 25th. Nicki served in Edinburgh Diocese prior to her appointment as Provost in Oban.
Nicki, as she announced the move to the Cathedral, said, “These major personal decisions always give rise to mixed feelings – on the one hand I look forward with anticipation to a new challenge, while on the other hand my feelings are tinged with sadness because I’m sincerely grateful for having had the opportunity to work with you here at St John’s.”
West Highland Region and Church Army Centre of Mission
The Reverend Amanda Fairclough has been selected to be the Priest in Charge and Lead Evangelist for the West Highland Region, subject to the completion of the usual checks. Amanda is presently an Assistant Priest in Warrington, in Liverpool Diocese, and is also a member of the Church of England General Synod and the Church Commissioners for the Church of England.
The West Highland Region includes the Scottish Episcopal charges in Duror, Ballachulish, Onich, Glencoe and Kinlochleven. The Church Army Centre of Mission is a new partnership project to reach the unchurched in that area.
Amanda said, “I’m really looking forward to working with the people of the West Highland Region, many of whom I have enjoyed meeting on Sundays during my previous holidays to the region. To be called to live and serve in such a beautiful place is an enormous privilege. I am particularly excited that we will be setting up a new Centre of Mission in partnership with the Church Army, and I’m praying that God will lead us to reach out to people through fresh expressions of church as well as the famous Highland gift of hospitality.”
Her licensing as the Priest in Charge and Ordained Lead Evangelist is planned for July 2017. More details will be provided nearer the time.
